About My Practice

JudithBarr_250-as_lo-res
Passionate about my desire to help heal and transform the planet and committed to making a difference one-by-one and on a global scale, I bring to my practice a tapestry of natural gifts interwoven with my life experience and professional skills – combining my deep roots in psychotherapy with my own growing-edge spiritual midwifery.

I practice in Brookfield, Connecticut. My background includes private practice as a depth psychotherapist since 1975, an M.S. in Counseling, and licensure as a Mental Health Counselor in Connecticut, New York, and Florida. I’m also certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors as a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a National Certified Counselor.

My passion to help others reaches out into the many capacities listed below. If you would like my help in any of these areas, please contact me.

If you live too far away to do therapy with me in person, I also do therapy via phone sessions with people in Florida, New York and Connecticut. I’m working to expand that to other states.

In my capacity as a Depth Psychotherapist . . .

I bring all that I have — my skill, my art, my experience — to safely guide you into the depths and back again, empowering you to create great healing, transformation, and change . . . from the inside out.

In my capacity as a Financial Therapist . . .

I help you explore your unconscious relationship with money, revealing profound clues for healing your psyche, your soul, and your financial life. This exploration offers, at first a glimpse, and then later a clearer, wider, deeper view of your inner relationship with money – the wounds, the strengths, the hidden decisions, your deepest feelings – and the effect on your outer relationship with money. It also gives us what we need to help you heal your relationship with money to the root.

In my capacity as a Spiritual Midwife . . .

To live and thrive in these times, making changes on the outer level may be necessary, but that is not going to resolve and sustain the solutions to the core problems we face. We need to discover and give birth to the true needs and values of our inner selves, our spirits, our souls. That’s why as a spiritual midwife, I am a midwife to the soul.

I serve your spirit the way a midwife attends and attunes to a pregnant mother – before, during, and after she gives birth – helping to guide you through the darkness into the light, bringing you home to yourself, as you give deeper and deeper birth to your Self.

In my capacity as an Interfaith Minister . . .

Through ritual and a grounded spirituality, I help create a deeper understanding and appreciation for the times of transition and transformation in your life . . . baby namings, weddings, memorial services . . . stages of life (the menstrual journey, coming of age, croning, aging) and other passages.

In my capacity to teach about how individual wounds and healing connect with global wounds and healing . . .

I have written Power Abused, Power Healed and How Did We Get Here?; I have been a guest on numerous radio and television interviews/programs; I have been a speaker at many groups and organizations; and I have written many articles that discuss this bridge in relation to current events, including my blog PoliPsych.

I have also helped people connect these dots as they do their own inner work – in sessions or group – and experience the connection between what’s happening in the communal life of our world and what’s still alive inside them from their own wounding long ago.

In my capacity as a writer . . .

I am passionate about writing articles to help people understand how our psyches affect our lives individually, culturally, and globally.

In my capacity as a teacher about the therapeutic/healing process and about life – for lay people and professionals . . .

Life is filled with uncertainty and mystery. So is the healing journey. I have found that teaching people what is possible to teach can help them go through the experience of their journey with an understanding that will help with the uncertainty, even with the mystery.  Both in person and long distance – for individuals, couples, and groups – I can help people understand and apply to their experience concepts such as commitment, transference, the maze, escape hatches, and more.  This teaching can help someone prepare to enter therapy, or take a deeper step into their healing journey. It can also help therapists prepare their clients as they enter therapy, or help them take a deeper step in their process.  It can help people better understand self-responsibility, take responsibility for what is theirs, and make choices based on self-responsibility . . . not blame, not fault, but true self responsibility. People have told me that this teaching informs, intrigues, and inspires them . . . whatever stage in their healing journey, whatever stage in their life.
